Global payments technology company Visa has appointed Mr. Ng Kong Boon as its new Country Manager for Malaysia, taking over from Mr. Stuart Tomlinson who will be moving to Manila to take on the role of Visa Country Manager for the Philippines and Guam.
Mr. Ng previously held the position of Head of Sales for Visa Malaysia, where he managed Visa’s business relationships with client banks and key merchants, as well as making sure the company exceeded it sales targets.
Among the highlights of his career at Visa, Mr. Ng played a key role in the migration of ATM and payment cards in Malaysia to full EMV Chip technology, making Malaysia the first country in the world with full national EMV migration and successfully bringing down payment card fraud levels to one of the lowest the country has ever seen.
In addition, Mr. Ng played a major role in the implementation of Verified by Visa (VbV), which is a secure method of authenticating cardholders’ online transactions via a one-time password, for Malaysia.
Mr. Ng brings to the role more than 20 years of extensive industry experience in the card payments, banking, insurance, and information technology sectors. Prior to joining Visa in 2003, he held various senior positions in Citibank, Malaysian Electronic Payments Systems and PA Consulting Group.
“I am honored and excited to take on this role and have the opportunity to continue working with our key clients and business partners. In addition, I look forward to continuing our close collaboration with the Government of Malaysia to drive innovations in payment technology in the country, in line with the Malaysian government’s e-payment vision as laid out in its Economic Transformation Programme,” said Mr. Ng.
“The Visa Malaysia team has made significant progress in expanding Visa card acceptance into a variety of segments such as restaurants, mass transit and online stores, as well as into cities outside the metropolitan area, such as Kota Bharu. We will continue to introduce new card innovations so that more Malaysians can continue to have a convenient, efficient and secure way to pay and be paid for their everyday goods and services.
